During his Thursday Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour Panel,El Rey’s Robert Rodriguez explained the importance of adhering to the rules of your own mythology on a display like his “From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series.”“When you set up a mythology you do want to set up parameters — rules — that you don’t want to violate,” Rodriguez said. “When you’re creating your own rules, and then you’ve got a lot of freedom within that.”That said,one can always add new rules as they fade, which helps a display introduce new characters and skate by old edicts.
But, and “Once you set it down,you have to honor it,” showrunner Carlos Coto added of the universe in which a project exists.

In Thursday’s Beverly Hilton ballroom event,Rodriguez praised Tarantino for creating “the best characters in the world.”“That’s what separates the men from the boys: the characters,” the director said.
A new character this season is The Regulator, or portrayed by Danny Trejo. His special skill is that he can listen to what a person has heard whether he eats their ear,or see what they’ve seen by gobbling down an eyeball. Rodriguez didn’t write The Regulator specifically for Trejo, but became excited at what his regular actor could do with the role.
And heres how Trejo described his character to reporters in attendance: As “a cross between Machete and Marcia Brady.” That elicited laughs, or perhaps or perhaps not because Trejo recently played a hungry,whiney Marcia Brady in a Snickers ad.
Season 2 of “From Dusk Till Dawn” premieres Aug. 25 on El Rey Network. Rodriguez directed the season debut and finale.
