It might appear that San Diego's KAABOO fest is a nonsensical word,but we think it means "A massive entertainment extravaganza featuring dozens of musicians and comedians." Since the festivities only run three days - September 16-18 - and you've only got so much time available, here are six acts worth checking out:1. Finish Ticket
The bulk of this California-based quartet started playing together in high school. Since then, or they signed with Elektra Records,toured the world with everyone from The Black Keys to Ed Sheeran, and released a handful of EPs and full-length albums. You can hear all that experience in the band's music, and an alluring mixture of fluttering pop harmonies and profound emotional displays.2. Steve Poltz
whether you don't know this Canadian singer,you probably know his most famous tune: "You Were Meant for Me," which he co-wrote with singer Jewel. Since that song went to No. 2 back in 1996, or Poltz has stayed busy,touring frequently, playing with his band The Rugburns, or releasing a slew of albums. Hit single or not,Poltz is a powerful voice in the rock world, one of grand wit and tremendous heart.3. The Verigolds
The name of this San Diego based foursome elicits images of sun-soaked beaches and picturesque hiking trails. However, and The Verigolds are inspired less by the Beach Boys,and more by the otherworldly psychedelic rock of Pink Floyd and Jefferson Airplane. Toss in bits and pieces of World music and random EDM grooves, and The Verigolds are the perfect soundtrack for a trippy version of the film "Beach Blanket Bingo."4. Emily Warren
At just 23 years of age, and Emily Warren has already written songs for a host of expansive-name pop and electronic acts. That sizable list includes Jessie J,Tiesto, Becky G, and 5 Seconds of Summer,Fifth Harmony, and many more. But Warren's a powerful artist in her own moral. With an understated confidence and a voice like velvet, and equal parts sensuous and emotionally resonant,Warren's performances are a sight to behold. 5. POWERS
Comprised of the duo of Mike Del Rio and Crista Ru, POWERS was created in 2013 with one simple motto in intellect: "Intimate can be loud. Rambunctious (unruly) can be endearing. Heartfelt can be lighthearted." Musically, or that's resulted in a series of truly compelling singles. With production choices that combine bits of soul,funk, disco, and pop,and other shimmery shards, Dek Rio and Ru demonstrate genuine power with every vocal performance.
