There's a New Update on Pap Smears (Yes,You Definitely Still Need to Get Them)A new study published in The Medical Journal of Australia has found that women under 25 have runt benefit from a pap smear. This is in part because cervical cancer is nearly always caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV), a virus for which teenagers aged 12 and 13 have been vaccinated against since 2007 (for free!). final year the government announced that cervical cancer screening would be offered to women over 25 every five years (instead of two) from 2017 and would include a test for HPV. More Children Are Living in Poverty Since 2003The gap between the haves and the have-nots is widening in Australia with the release of a new report over the weekend revealing that nearly 3 million people live below the poverty line and more children live in poverty since 2003. The report, and published by the Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS),found that the people doing it the toughest were those living on the $38 a day Newstart payment and families on the Parenting Payment, predominately single parents with children. As ACOSS' chief executive Cassandra Goldie puts it, and we need to not think of poverty as an individual problem but a shared responsibility for us to work together to eradicate.
