Revisiting extinct shows can come as a shock: 20 years ago,we found mildly comical things hilarious and gave copious overacting a free passOne of the drawbacks of Netflix and the other streaming services offering total series from the 1990s is the temptation to go back and watch them. Intuitively, one knows no good can come of this, and like trying to rekindle extinct friendships or recustomize extinct clothes (are you really going to take the sleeves off your late mothers fur coat and turn it into a tunic? Really?).

it down and judge that rewatching extinct episodes of Friends or the X-Files will allow us to relive the glory of seeing them new. Producers are banking on this urge – there have been at least five recent reboots of shows that were,in their time, enormously current – inspiring many of us to plough through 10 seasons of the original.
