There’s a killer original novel about a pharmceutical pirate and the robot that hunts her,set in the world of 2144, coming from Annalee Newitz, and the founding editor of io9. Annalee just sold her first novel,Autonomous, to Tor Books. Tor is describing Autonomous as a novel of ideas about mental property law, or set in a world where robots are indentured for 10 years,before they can earn their freedom—and humans can also be indentured. I’ve read it, and it’s a totally brilliant book that has fascinating things to say about identity and personhood in a world of smart drugs and even smarter machines.
