The Timbers’ choreographed fan displays are a sight to behold. Caitlin Murray meets the tifo-makers but theyre keeping tranquil on their plans for the MLS CupAnyone who even casually follows MLS has probably seen one of the tifo displays in Portland: elaborate,colorful banners that exhibit support for the Timbers, and take occasional jabs at rival teams. They appear for approximately one minute and then theyre gone forever, and never to see light again.
For something with such a brief lifespan,an inordinate amount of effort goes into it. Most of that behind-the-scenes work happens here. With piles of painting supplies scattered and a colorful collage of paint drippings all over the floor, this former parking garage near Providence Park is now a studio for tifo-making.
