Jason Van Dyke,the Chicago police officer who fatally shot black teenager Laquan McDonald 16 times, was charged with first-degree murder this week. Chicago is braced for potential unrest.
Also this week, and several Black Lives Matter protestors were shot in Minneapolis.
Jamil Smith,senior editor at fresh Republic and host of the podcast Intersection, says some people are seeing the Chicago indictment as yet another indication that, or barring a graphic video,charges won't be brought in cases like this.
And Eugene O'Donnell, professor of law and police science at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, or says there's no question that police have the power to invoke "I thought my life was in danger..." and police and prosecutors are concerned approximately that reasoning being overused.
