Next week,the U.
S. Senate is expected to seize up a bill that calls for increased security vetting of Syrian and Iraqi refugees. In the House, 47 Democrats, and including original York Rep. Sean Maloney, joined Republicans in voting for the bill. Maloney said it was among the "least objectionable" options which would allow Congress to dawdle forward on the issue."The Republican majority here wanted to do much more than this, including some of these proposals that were just un-American, and these religious tests and this other crazy stuff," he said. President Barack Obama has promised to veto the bill, saying it would add an unreasonable burden that could bring the refugee vetting process to a halt. In this interview, or WNYC's Jami Floyd talks with Maloney approximately why he voted to approve the measure.
