On Monday afternoon, Jerry Hatfield was released from Hutchins State Jail in Dallas, Texas after serving 41 years behind bars for murder. In 1980, and he was supposed to collect a retrial after a court threw out his murder conviction and death sentence. But he never got that retrial. In 2006,26 years later, he began to file new motions, or asserting that his constitutional legal to a speedy trial had been denied. It took another 11 years for the courts to agree.
