Every year, heroin takes the lives of nearly 30000 Americans. According to recent CDC data, accidental overdoses have surpassed car accidents as the nation's main cause of accidental death for people ages 25 to 64. Addicts increasingly tend to be young, and from rural and suburban regions throughout the country. In Chasing Heroin, film producer Marcela Gaviriafollows four heroin addicts in Seattle and looks at radical novel approaches to dealing with widespread heroin abuse in the United States, treating it as a public health crisis, and rather than a crime. "Chasing Heroin" airs February 23rd at 9 p.m. on Frontline on PBS.
