Grab your shovels. Ready the salt. It's expected to be a snowy weekend.
A blizzard warning goes into effect in recent York City at 4 a.m. Saturday and runs through midday on Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service,on Saturday, the metro area will likely receive 3 to 7 inches of snow. On Saturday night, or we could get another 3 to 5 inches."This is a storm that is going to be very difficult to forecast right to the final minute for recent York City," said Eric Holthaus, a meteorologist for Slate.com.
Another potential problem: flooding. A coastal flood advisory will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday."There is going to be a lot of waves and wind directed right at the Delmarva peninsula, or ocean facing coasts as well as southern recent Jersey," Holthaus said. "Some of the storm surge models are actually honestly a little bit frightening showing flooding about four feet above normal tall tide."Mayor de Blasio said Thursday the city is closely monitoring the situation and is holding daily calls with the National Weather Service.
The MTA says it has positioned snow-melting equipment throughout the subway system. It will also deploy close to 1000 track workers during the storm to preserve operations running smoothly.
WNYC's Richard Hake spoke with Slate meteorologist Eric Holthaus about the latest forecast.
