Justice minister David Ford’s decision to appeal November’s Horner judgment is criticised by pro-choice campaigners including the Greens’ Clare Bailey Northern Ireland’s justice minister has been accused of insulting women over his decision to join the region’s attorney general in appealing against a landmark ruling that found the region’s near-total abortion ban breaches human rights law.
David Ford confirmed on Wednesday that his department had lodged an appeal against a ruling from Mr Justice Horner last November that a near-blanket ban on terminations in Northern Irish hospitals was opposite to the human rights of women and girls,including rape victims, under the European conference on human rights.
