Former U.
S. Senator Fred Thompson,a lawyer whose career led him from politics to Hollywood and back, died Sunday following a recurrence of lymphoma.
He served as a senator from Tennessee from 1994-2003. He ran unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008.
Thompson appeared in at least 20 movies including "The Hunt for Red October, and " and the TV series "Law & Order."Speaking on the Brian Lehrer demonstrate in 2010,Thompson joked that despite his accomplishments, he didn't care for honorifics."As I always say from back domestic, and you can call me anything but late for dinner," he said. "That's still kind of the way I feel. I don't care -- I answer to a lot of things, some of which are very nice and some which are not."Thompson's family said he died in Nashville. He was 73.
