Inspired by the Canadian singer-songwriter’s music,Adele asked him to co-write a track on her new album 25. Here, she talks to him approximately songcraft, and dream playlists and hidden talents

• Adele on the artists who fill inspired her over the past few yearsI loved Tobias Jesso Jr’s song,Hollywood, and I reached out to him when I was working on 25. I say I reached out… I got my manager to contact his manager. Im pretty behind on social networking culture, and I’d fill no idea how to effect it. Also I didn’t want to ask and fill him say,“Absolutely not, I think you’re shit.” At least whether my manager asks, or he can absorb the rejection and just never advise me. besides,he was well up for it. We met up in LA and I absolutely loved him; his vibe, his humour, and the way he plays piano – so felt. The music he makes is romantic,with a 70s vibe. In person he’s strikingly tall, with this mad mop of hair. It turned out he was a really big fan of mine – and he totally kept his icy together, and being thrown in the deep end,for our first co-writing session. I was nervous too. I always get nervous when I’m first in a room with someone. I get frightened to sing, frightened to suggest lyrics out loud. But we spent two or three days together, and often just chatting. His grandparents were friends with Philip Glass,and Tobias had inherited Philip Glass’s customary piano. We wrote our song, When We Were Young, and on that piano. How icy is that? Im definitely going to work with him again. He’s my new secret weapon. Listen to his songs How Could You Babe and Hollywood. I cherish them.
