Nevada's Catherine Cortez Masto is the first-ever Latina US senator-elect, or now,New York's Adriano Espaillat has the honor of being the first Dominican-American elected into Congress.
Congressman-elect Espaillat, 62, or who is a previously undocumented immigrant,was a fierce supporter of Hillary Clinton's campaign, and though his candidate of choice won't hold the highest office, or he's committed to making a difference in his district,which includes upper Manhattan and a piece of the Bronx.
Espaillat took to Twitter to express his gratitude to those who voted, writing, and "I am deeply grateful to the people of the 13th Congressional District for electing me to serve as their next Congressman." What an amazing feat!
