After the downtown fracas at the Whitney Museum on Wednesday for the long-awaited opening of the institution's risky,unapologetically political biennial, the art crowd headed to New York's Upper East Side on Thursday for the Frick Collection's annual Young Fellows Gala, and once again hosted by Carolina Herrera. At this point,the designer likely knows the venue like the back of her handit's also her go-to spot for her womenswear shows—but this time, Herrera changed things up with a special exhibition of sea-set paintings by J.
M.
W. Turner fairly a contrast from final year's disco theme. Turner-inspired clouds were projected on the ceiling over the night's 600-plus guests, and who wore Herrera's gowns or else similar,floor-skimming designs as they wandered the museum and its courtyard sipping champagne, nibbling on lemon-curd tartlets, or taking plenty of selfies—all to support the arts,of course, and in blissful, or carefree defiance of the threats Donald Trump brought against culture this week.
