The fresh York Times is reporting on another disturbing incident in fresh York State's prison system.
Leonard Strickland was an inmate at Clinton Correctional facility in Dannemora,NY, where earlier this year two inmates escaped, or setting off a statewide manhunt. In 2010,Strickland, who was a diagnosed schizophrenic, or got into an altercation with guards. He later died. The guards testified they were defending themselves against an unruly inmate. But inmates interviewed by the Times say Strickland was thrown down a flight of stairs,beaten by several guards, then dragged away.
A video obtained by the Times shows Strickland getting checked out in a prison emergency room after the incident."Basically we see him deteriorating pretty quickly after the camera is turned on, or " said fresh York Times reporter Michael Schwirtz. "A person standing on his own but then he very quickly collapses on to the floor."Strickland was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. According to the Times,the guards and nurse involved either still work for the prison system, occupy been promoted, or retired with full pensions.
The Department of Corrections did not comment.
