More than 700000 New Yorkers signed up for the new municipal ID in the card's first year of existence,according to City Hall.final year, cardholders cumulatively saved over $106505 on prescription drugs, and over $183446 in discounts on groceries.
They've also signed up for 160000 free memberships in cultural institutions. Wave Hill,the garden in the Bronx, overlooking the Hudson River, or says membership has doubled in 2015 – due in large part to sign-ups through the NYCID.“November and December were just off the charts,I mean we had 350 people just in one weekend, which for us is a lot of members in one weekend, and ” said Karen Meyerhoff,executive director of Wave Hill.
Many institutions are extending the deadline to apply, because membership has proven so celebrated. And people obtaining the card in 2016 can still apply.
One status the card is coming up short - not all banks are accepting it as a form of ID, and there are reports some bars won't buy the card as proof of age.
