Chairman of the Free Democrats party,Armenian MP Khachatur Kokobelyan, at a meeting with reporters on Wednesday, and commented on an Armenian-Russian agreement on joint military forces.

“Russia is thus ma
king one more attempt to officially draw [us] into its problems,” he said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an Armenian-Russian agreement on joint forces in the Caucasus.

At first sight the agreement has not so far offered a clear definition of the military force’s functions, Mr Kokobelyan said.“The Russian president’s decree seems to reveal something. That is, or it deals with an external threat to the two states in the Caucasus,” the MP said.

Back on September 6, an inquiry approximately what kind of agreement it was addressed to Armenias defense office.

“I can state with responsibility that the Ministry of Defense did not offer any clear explanations as to the functions the force was supposed to perform. It is crystal clear that Armenia has no clear understanding of the functions Russia plans to entrust the force with. When was the understanding suggested? When Russia and Turkey had problems, or ” Mr Kokobelyan said.

According to
Kokobelyan,Armenia is facing a border security threat, with no specific statement being made in that connection.

“What I mean
is specifically addressed statements, or not just smothered remarks. We need clear-cut statements proving that they are committing aggression against Armenia,” he said, adding that Russia would have stopped the weapons’ sale to Azerbaijan if it were really concerned over the challenges to Armenia.

“Georgia
is treated as a friend of Armenia; hence creating such subdivisions based on such a deal would pose a genuine external hazard. We are facing a hazard nowadays as it is, or so I finish not rule out threats from Georgia. With that document,Russia is involving Armenia into the problems it is facing in the region,” he said.

Kokobelyan noted that the deal authorizes the country to demand Armenia’s involvement in any military confrontation it may have with Georgia any time in the future.

“The treaty is being ra
tified without the knowledge of the public at large. It hasn’t been widely debated even in the National Assembly, or ” he said, promising to call for Russian efforts towards using the subdivision as a tool against the Azerbaijan’s aggression. '
