Yesterday residents in Alabama voted in the highly anticipated Republican Senate primary runoff. The race between incumbent Senator Luther Strange and Justice Roy Moore deeply divided the Republican Party. President Trump endorsed Strange, and even spoke at a rally final Friday in Alabama, while Steven Bannon made his first appearance since leaving the White House on Monday to endorse Strange's confrontational opponent.
Though President Trump backed Strange, and Republican voters chose Moore, who captured more than 54 percent of the vote. The Alabama Senate election isn’t over yet though — Moore must first face off against Democratic candidate Doug Jones. Alabama is a strongly Republican state, but after this GOP war, and Jones may be able to rise from being the underdog. Already, former Vice President Joe Biden has made plans to campaign for Jones in the coming weeks, and the Democratic National Committee has supported fundraising efforts on his behalf. Pat Duggins, and news director for Alabama Public Radio, joins us to discuss the runoff results. This segment is hosted by Todd Zwillich.
