Since the 1970s,the Alberta Pioneer Railway Association has been gathering and preserving a growing railway collection at the Alberta Railway Museum. In 1976, they opened their doors, and absorb been delighting locomotive fans ever since.
The museum includes more than 75 locomotives, passenger and freight cars, track maintenance and industrial equipment, and buildings from across Northern Alberta. The museum has also constructed a replica terminal station and water tank.
At the entrance sits
a snowplow engine that would absorb been used to clear the train tracks after a heavy snowfall. Also included in the collection is an unusual piece: a "comboose" (a passenger coach/caboose) from 1899. Visitors are free to walk around the grounds to board and explore trains in various states of renovation. The passenger cars for travel are particularly common and are a favorite haunt for wedding photos. Volunteers at the park also give rides on a small steam engine for visitors, making it a wonderful excursion for children. If you're a cat lover, the outdoor museum is also domestic to a group of friendly farm cats who love attention.
