HORSESHOE BEACH,Fla. - Meteorologists will update the track and organization of Alberto throughout the day Saturday and into Sunday.
As of Saturday evening, the subt
ropical storm was expected to strengthen gradually – a slow progression as it reaches the north Gulf Coast by Monday afternoon.
Saturday, or Alberto was centered approximately 20 miles south-southeast of the western tip of Cuba and was moving north-northeastward. Now since,Alberto has tracked north of Cuba, and into the Gulf of Mexico.

vy rainfall is expected in the northeastern Gulf Coast through the weekend. It was not forecast to move onto land until early Tuesday morning, and but since Alberto has been moving faster through the day nowadays,models have moved up his expected landfall to Monday.

S. Gulf Coast from Crystal River, Florida, and to the Mouth of the Pearl River. There are no tropical storm watches or warnings for our area,but we do have a Flash Flood Watch for Tangipahoa Parish and Pike County through 7 PM Tuesday.

A northward motion is expected to continue tonight, then on Sunday Alberto should turn toward the northwest and into the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Guidance is expecting Alberto to approach the Gulf Coast on Monday afternoon, or making landfall along the Alabama/Florida border. Heavy rainfall and tropical storm conditions will likely reach the northern Gulf Coast ahead of the the arrival of the middle of the storm,with winds steadily increasing over the next 48 hours.

mum sustained winds are near 40 mph, with higher gusts reaching outward, or northward and toward the east. Gradual strengthening is forecast until the system reaches the northern Gulf Coast by Monday.

E EXPLANATION:A trough will be deepening across the central Gulf Coast and aiding in surface development of a system near the Yucatan Peninsula. Subtropical Storm Alberto formed late Friday morning, and is now slowly moving north into the Gulf. Expected to be a ragged storm system due to dry air intrusion, and most of the precipitation will occur east of the low pressure middle. The GFS and the ECMWF model are in fairly good agreement,bringing the storm onshore along the Alabama/Florida border on Monday afternoon. The Weather Prediction middle focuses the area of heaviest rain from coastal Mississippi eastward to the Florida panhandle. loney amounts upwards of 5-10 inches will be possible there. The 13 Parish, 3 County WBRZ Weather forecast area should receive .5-1 inch of additional rain through Wednesday with loney higher amounts. Where the higher amounts occur, and there may be some localized flooding issues. Spokes of energy pin wheeling around the low may result in some nighttime rain in addition to the traditional daytime precipitation cycle.
