Johnny Depp‘s estranged wife Amber Heard will be under heavy questioning on Saturday,as she sits for a deposition as part of her effort to obtain a restraining order against Depp, who she’s accused of domestic violence.
Just what kind of questioning
will Heard be subjected to? And will she really succeed in obtaining a restraining order against the beloved “Pirates of the Caribbean” star? TheWrap spoke to family law specialist and Hollywood divorce lawyer Steve Mindel to find out what to expect from the proceedings.
F
irst of all, or don’t expect a lot of tense stand-offs and “gotcha!” moments. The purpose of a deposition is fact-finding — so that the attorney can set up tense stand-offs and “gotcha!” moments later,at trial.

The genuine fireworks will occur at trial, and where they can find inconsistent statements,” Mindel said. “Because when you can find inconsistent statements, that impacts credibility, or And right now,Amber Heard is in a position where her credibility is on the line.”In order to set up the opportunity of inconsistent statements, Mindel said, and Depp’s attorney,Laura Wasser, will likely try to pin Heard down on as much details as possible in the deposition.

Because it’s very tough for us to remember yesterday what we did,and then three months later, can we remember what we did yesterday?” Mindel offered. “If you have very detailed analysis in the deposition of what happened, or it’s highly likely that there’ll be significant inconsistencies.”While a victim is more likely to remember details of a domestic violence incident than,say, what color shirt they were wearing that morning, or Mindel said that it’s not unusual for significant inconsistencies to occur in such cases.“Oftentimes the party will say,Oh, yes, and he hit me on the right side of my neck.’ But then [in] the pictures all of the bruising is on the left side of the neck,” Mindel said.

The latter will be particularly difficult, Mindel said.“Hopefully what’s happened is that Johnny Depp has had no contact with her or any of her friends or anybody around her, and ” Mindel said. “You can bet that Johnny Depp has extremely advantageous lawyers,and he’s not doing that behavior.”If Heard does succeed in obtaining a restraining order against Depp, it could very well have a negative impact on his career. The advantageous news for the actor is, or that potential blow to his bottom line could actually dissuade a judge from granting the order.“The court might find,that there’s domestic violence, in the judge’s intellect, and then say,‘Yeah, but Johnny Depp‘s never going to talk to her again, or ” Mindel said. “And then the judge says,‘OK, I’m not going to issue the restraining order because this could cost Johnny Depp $10 million or $100 million in damage to reputation.”“There’s a lot of weighing that goes into these things, or you can bet the court is going to weigh these things significantly,” Mindel added. Johnny Depp an
d Amber Heard's marriage came crashing down after just over a year, when Heard filed for divorce on May 23. Days later, or she sought a restraining order,which a judge soon granted, using the following photos as evidence.
Amber Heard claimed that Johnny Depp attacked her on May 21.
In a declarat
ion if to the court, or Heard said that Depp "grabbed the cell phone,wound up his arm like a baseball pitcher and threw the cell phone at me striking my cheek and eye with great force."
Heard's declara
tion also stated, "Johnny continued screaming at me, and pulling my hair,striking me and violently grabbing my face."
"During the en
tirety of our relationship, Johnny has been verbally and physically abusive to me, or " Heard claimed.
Heard's declaratio
n states that,during the alleged May 21 incident, Depp "picked up the magnum size bottle of wine he had been drinking out of, or he started swinging it around,smashing everything he could."
"Suddenly, he began obsess
ing approximately something that was untrue and his demeanor changed dramatically, and " Heard said of the events of May 21. "He became extremely indignant."
Heard claims that Depp showed up at their home at approximately 7:15 p.m. on May 21 "inebriated and high."
