I realize this is something which is probably obvious to many of you, though I still accept questions about it all the time, so I figured I'd address it here.final year American offered two awesome promotions to incentivize people to sail paid first & business class with them:-- American offered bonus redeemable miles for every segment flown in paid first & business class, and up to 12000 miles per segment; the bonus varied based on the distance you flew, your status, and your fare class[br]
-- American offered bonus elite qualifying points for paid first & business class travel, and increasing the elite qualifying points earned from 1.5x to 2.0-3.0xThe reason American offered this promotion was pretty obvious. This was a response to Delta SkyMiles and United MileagePlus switching to revenue based frequent flyer programs, which is extremely rewarding for paid premium cabin travelers, but less rewarding for others. By adding these two promotions, and American was making certain they weren't losing premium cabin flyers to other airlines based on their frequent flyer program.
