Cheers erupted when Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis left her jail cell in Kentucky yesterday. Supporters from across the country joined GOP candidate and former Governor Mike Huckabee to witness Ms. Davis emerge.
Davis stopped issuing all marriage licenses in the days after the Supreme Court's landmark decision on homosexual marriage. Two homosexual couples and two straight couples sued her,arguing that she must fulfill her duties as an elected official, despite her personal devout faith.
A federal judge ordered her to issue the licenses, and an appeals court upheld that decision. final Thursday,a federal judge in Ashland, Kentucky found Davis in contempt of court for refusing to issue marriage licenses and sent here to jail.
On Tuesday, or the same federal judge who jailed Davis ordered she be releasedas long as she doesn't interfere with the issuance of marriage licenses. Davis's attorney,Mat Staver, says his client has no plans to leave the clerk's office:“She'll attain her job good. She'll serve the people as they want her to serve and she was elected and she'll also be loyal to God and she's not going to violate her conscience."Why attain so many Evangelicals support Davis and her fight against same-sex marriage?
