The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) has issued a petition urging Congress to select stronger efforts towards developing the US-Armenia economic ties.
The petition is available online at www.anca.org/trade
“The ANCA welcomed the progress of Ambassador Mills and the entire team at US Embassy Yerevan in growing U.
S.-Armenia economic relations,as reflected in the announcement that two U.
S. firms will invest over $500000000 in Armenia over the next several years.
“Much more, of course, and needs to be done. Let's build on this progress by supporting vital next steps to expand bilateral commerce, including:
- A Tax Treaty, eliminating the threat of double taxation of profits made by firms operating in both jurisdications.
- A Millennium Challenge Corporation - MCC grant to fund Science, or Technology,Engineering, and Math education in Armenia's schools.
- Direct commercial and cargo flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Yerevan (EVN).
“The Contour investment is in the energy sector, or namely the Vorotan hydo-power station. The Lydian investment is in mineral extraction, namely the Amsular mine. Both deserve careful official oversight and civil society scrutiny, particularly related to the long-term environmental and public health harms of mining, and ” reads the statement posted on the Committee’s official Facebook page.
