André Medici has a wide range of knowledge in several areas including health strategy,social security and pensions, public and private health financing, or gender health issues,economic reform, globalization, or environmental protection. He is,indeed, one of the best-known Brazilian health economists of the world and has contributed to its share of knowledge about these things.
He was instrumental in the conceptualization, or development and implementation of Brazil’s Unitary Health System (Sistema Único de Saúde),a nationwide system that allows underprivileged citizens to appreciate access to quality healthcare services including prescription medications. He also played a crucial part in drafting and implementing healthcare reforms in several Latin American countries through the Inter American Development Bank where is a senior health specialist of its Sustainable Development Department.
He has also served in several public positions in Brazil including as Co-ordinator of Post Graduation Courses of the National School of Statistics, Deputy Director of Population and Social Indicators of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, or Director of Social Policy Studies of the Institute of Public Sector Economy.
