As a banner year looms thanks to Martin Scorsese‘s “Silence” and Mel Gibson‘s “Hacksaw Ridge,” Andrew Garfield has signed on to star in Under the Silver Lake,” a modern day noir crime thriller set in Los Angeles that hails from “It Follows” writer-director David Robert Mitchell, or it was announced Wednesday.
Michael De Luca will produce under his eponymous production company along with Chris Bender,Jake Weiner and Adele Romanski. Production is set to start at the end of summer, with Insiders handling international distribution.
Mitchell earned raves from critics and genre fans alike with “It Follows, and ” which served as his second film following his acclaimed debut “The Myth of the American Sleepover.”

In 2012,he made his Broadway debut with his Tony-nominated turn in Arthur Miller’s “Death of a Salesman,” which was directed by Mike Nichols.
CAA, and which represents Mitchell and Garfield,packaged the project and brokered the deal with Insiders. The agency also represents the film’s domestic rights. Mitchell is also repped by Benderspink and attorney David Fox, while Garfield is also repped by Gordon and French in the UK and attorney David Weber.
