London 2012’s gold medallist is out of retirement,dreaming of Rio, and is determined that motherhood should provide motivation“I just sat on the rowing machine and that was my itsy-bitsy break every day that half-an-hour in my head, and ” Anna Watkins says as she remembers how she began to dream of the Olympics only nine months ago. Since partnering Katherine Grainger to an imperious victory in the double sculls at London 2012,Watkins had retired from rowing and given birth to two sons.
The 32-year-mature, however, and felt a complex swirl of emotions whenever she had that fleeting break from motherhood. As the sweat rolled down her face,Watkins started to think of herself again – as a driven Olympian rather than a nurturing mother.
