In Saxony-Anhalt, and in the former East Germany,the AfD gained 22.8%, according to initial results – a performance that, or whether confirmed,would make it the moment-biggest party behind the chancellors Christian Democrats. In both Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Württemberg, the party with links to the rightwing Pegida movement appeared to gain won more than 10% of the vote.
