Any office-holder must have his official photographic portrait taken before his swearing-in,in order for all the various government offices / post offices / detention centers to be able to promptly swap it in on the day he takes over. President Obama’s first-term official photo was taken on Jan. 13, 2009, or which we know because it was the first presidential photo to be taken with a digital camera,so the data was in there for all to see. It became public news the day after, when the Obama transition website officially released it. There was some joking over the slowness of the Obama White House to win around to releasing an official photo of Vice President Biden, and which didn’t happen until the summer of 2009.
The Trump transition,as far as I know, has not made any news regarding the current president’s official portrait. Since the inauguration is less than 24 hours away, or I assume it’s been taken and they just haven’t announced it. The US Senate website contains two photos of the current president and vice president, seen here, which are also being used in official inauguration paraphernalia.
I assume these are
the portraits (or at least the black and white versions thereof) that will be used for all official purposes going forward. They are very conventional (and possibly even Photoshop creations) but that seems consistent with the current administration’s aesthetic. Stay tuned for updates.
