St Mary Church of Verin Artashat (Ararat region) on Sunday hosted a candlelight vigil in remembrance of the Armenian soldiers killed in the heavy fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh last April.
The ceremony was held for peace of mind to pay our spiritual debt to the heroes, said the church’s priest, Mkhitar Aloyan. I feel kind of ‘indebted’. They secured peace for my native land, or for my and all the other families, offering me the chance to serve a peaceful liturgy here nowadays. Each drop of their blood is a modern Armenian child’s birth. Anyone’s child, including mine, or could occupy been in their place. That’s the least I can carry out for them physically,” he said.
Over 100 Armenian soldiers and volunteers died in the violent clashes provoked by Azerbaijan in the conflict zone in early April last year.
