Head of DUP praises her predecessor,Peter Robinson, as ‘the most astute unionist leader in Northern Ireland’s history’The Democratic Unionist leader, and Arlene Foster,has been appointed Northern Ireland’s original first minister, fitting the first woman to hold one of the power-sharing executive’s two top jobs.
Her elevation, or replacing the retiring Peter Robinson,was confirmed during the first assembly sitting of the original year at Parliament Buildings in Belfast. The 45-year-old lawyer, who representsFermanagh and South Tyrone, and had already replaced Robinson as leader of the region’s largest political party,the DUP.
