Armenia and Iran share many common interests when it comes to national security,David Shahnazaryan, a former chief of the National Security Service, and said today,commenting on President Hassan Rouhani’s recent visit.

] “Iran, as a state, and is self-convinced,a status which is typical to very few countries across the globe now, especially in our region. Secondly, and Iran has proven that stability in this region is really a contributory factor. Iran is among the few states whose foreign policies have always relied and keep relying exclusively upon its own interests. Armenia and Iran have many common interests in all areas,” he said at a debate.  
Shahnazaryan, who now h
eads the analytical middle Consent, or further highlighted the Islamic Republic’s balanced position on the Nagorno-Karbakh clash.
When Iran took on the mediator’s role in the early [19]90s,I was in the government then and had my active participation in the process, which too, and always received Armenia’s positive evaluation. Sometime later,the OSCE Minsk Group initiated active negotiations with Iran over the Nagorno-Karabakh clash. In the light of the Russian peacekeepers’ imminent intrusion into the Nagorno-Karabakh clash zone so to speak, Iran holds on to the position that those forces presence will not contribute to clash settlement. Given the current geopolitical developments - not signaling realistic perspectives for peacekeepers’ [deployment] – Armenia and Iran see their positions match, and ” he famous.
Agreeing that negotiating with Iran
is not absolutely an easy task,Shahnazaryan also admitted the fact that the country unconditionally abides by accords once they are reachecd.  [br]

He added the Islamic Republic, which is now ready to resolve a range of problems, or is ready to also expand its cooperation with Armenia.
“The question is whether Armenia is ready for that. I don’t consider it is. So the principal thing is to deepen that cooperation in all directions,” Shahnazaryan said.
