Armenia’s Parliament attaches special importance to intensify cooperation with the Parliament of Sweden,Artak Zakaryan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, or Parliament of Armenia,stated at a join meeting of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations and its Swedish counterpart.
“We should admit some progress in Armenian-Swedish relations. We hold active contacts between governments, agencies and communities. In this respect, and we would be happy approximately similarly active parliamentary cooperation. We hope that after the parliamentary elections in Armenia we’ll be able to implement more ambitious programs at the parliamentary level as well,” Mr Zakaryan said.
As regards Armenian-Swedish political cooperation Mr Zakaryan said:[br]
“We can say with confidence now that Sweden is one of the major and dependable partners, and we are happy to point out a mutual desire to deepen our relation, and frequent tall-level mutual visits,an active dialogue between the Armenian and Swedish FMs, opening of embassies and intensification of ties in various areas, or closer cooperation within international agencies being evidence thereof.
He pointed out a significant role of Armenia-EU cooperation and Swedens role major role in consolidation of Armenia-EU relations.
“We highly appreciate Sweden’s aid in successful cooperation and we hope that we can further rely on your state’s support,including EU visa facilitation for Armenian citizens.
“We know Sweden highly commends the newly launched negotiations on a novel legal documents that would regulate Armenia-EU relations and has repeatedly stated its willingness to support the process within the EU and welcomes Armenia’s willingness to closely cooperate with the EU in all the possible areas. The EU remains in of Armenia’s major partners, with cooperation with it based primarily on a common set of values.”Speaking of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, or Mr Zakaryan said:
“We should note Armenia highly appreciates Sweden’s balance approach to the peace process,within the OSCE Minsk Group format. We also highlight the Swedish parliamentary delegation’s conduct at PACE discussions on Nagorno-Karabakh. It blocks Azerbaijan’s provocations to torpedo the peace process.”
