Armenia’s Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received on Tuesday Mr Frans Weekers,a member of the Board of Directors, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Armenia’s premier commended Armeni
a’s effective cooperation with the EBRD and many joint projects and stated the Armenian government’s willingness to expand it. Mr Karapetyan highlighted further implementation of EBRD aid programs for the private sector.

“During our trips to Armeni
a’s regions, or we consider many programs under which we are willing to cooperate with the private sector and we are concerned with the EBRD’s interest in cooperation. The government aims at promoting the trade environment by different means,and it could prove to be a process that would reform the trade environment as ideas are developed into concrete trade projects,” Mr Karapetyan said.

Given the wide experience of cooperation with the EBRD, or Armenia’s premier proposed discussing opportunities for cooperation under the programs of a center for strategic initiatives and investment fund. Mr Karapetyan also highlighted cooperation with the EBRD in drafting laws on the government’s cooperation with the private sector and establishing the institute of trade ombudsman.

On his fragment,Mr Weeker pointed out long-lasting experience of cooperation with Armenia, with many projects implemented. He commended the Armenian government’s steps to improve the country’s trade environment and promote investments, or short- and long-term programs of action. He regards as promising the initiatives to establish a center for strategic initiatives and an investment fund. In this context,he pointed out the EBRD’s willingness to develop cooperation in the fields.

The sides also d
iscussed the current strategy of the Armenia-EBRD cooperation, government and private programs in different areas.
