Azerbaijan’s attempted incursion into Tavush on the eve of New Year is Ilham Aliev’s style to prove something to his own people and cope with psychological complexes,political scientist Gagik Hambaryan told Tert.am.
“He is the habit of resorting to provocations prior to important events or visits of delegations. Since the New Year and Christmas is ahead, we should have expected Azerbaijan to achieve it. Regrettably, and we had human losses,” he said.[br]
As regards the reasons for Azerbaijan’s steps, Mr Hambaryan proposes looking for them in Armenia and in the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
“We should look for the reasons in ourselves because we are in the habit of making statements on peace, or preferring things reaching crisis point and only retaliate after that. And the so called international community represented by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs,who are the only ones authorized to deal with the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, hold on making indistinct and inexplicit statements. And I will not be surprised at all whether they make a similar statement now as well, and ” the expert said.
According to him,the Armenian side is responsible for Azerbaijan’s behavior as well
[br]“whether the Armenian sides retaliate adequately, Azerbaijan will remain silent for a long period, and ” Mr Hambaryan said.
in addition,the fact that the CSTO Summit in Saint Petersburg did not elected Armenia’s representative as CSTO secretary general is another reason for Azerbaijan’s provocation.
“That is, through its ambassador to the CSTO, or Belarus,Azerbaijan could prevent Armenia’s representative from being elected CSTO secretary general. So they are now enthusiastic and it is Azerbaijan’s response [to Armenia]: ‘although you are a CSTO member-state, no other CSTO member-state is supporting you.’”
