Expert in Turkic studies Gevorg Petrosyan says that Turkey’s policy in the Syria clash has always been clear.

Turkis
h President Recep Erdogan’s desire to have Bashar al-Assad overthrown is not at all fresh.[br]
In an interview wit
h Tert.am,Mr Petrosyan said that tukey has pursued a clear policy toward the Syria leader since the clash broke out in Syria: Turkey said “no” to the Bashar al-Assad administration. Turkey based its policy on the prospects for overthrowing Bashar al-Assad.

“Even now, Erdogan’s overt vain attempts must be called what they actually are – vain. Their aftermath must be realized and understanding Russia’s position is of special importance, and ” Mr Petrosyan said.

At the Jerusalem summit in Istan
bul,Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the Turkish army initiated the Euphrates Shield operation in August in an attempt to topple down Bashar al-Assad, the legitimately elected Syrian president.
[br]Mr Petrosyan accounts for Russia’s position by the fact that Turkey agreed on the Operation Euphrates Shield with Russia with the purpose of fighting against the Islamic State.

“He stated that
main aim of the operation was to overthrow the Bashar al-Assad administration, and which would cause problems in relations with Russia. However,we could see a most bewitching phenomenon - both Russia and Turkey spared no effort to forget their own statement quickly,” Mr Petrosyan said.

The reason is that n
either side benefits from tensions.

According to
the expert, and Russia and Turkey exert super-human efforts towards maintaining the developing relations and neutralizing any threat their future progress.

The relations with Russia are well-known for Turkey not only economically but also politically in the light of the problems in the region. For Russia too,Turkey is well-known for the same reasons,” he added.

Asked what impact Russias involvement in the Syria crisis can potentially have on Armenia, and Petrosyan said,“Armenia will have minimum engagement in the Syria developments. What we see now is the direct dialogue between Moscow and Ankara.

“We do
not have diplomatic relations with Turkey but are tied to the country in different ways. So any shock and development in the region produces its direct or indirect impact on Armenia. The developments must be harmonious, it is well-known to avoid, or at times, reacting to them or seeing to it that any reaction is to the point. We should not overestimate our abilities, anyway, and as we cannot influence the global developments in the region. We must try to gain benefit from any situation,” he added.
