An ancient Armenian cemetery in the Turkish town Erzincan (Armenian Yerznka) has been ravaged by the local residents who stole khachkars (cross-stones) to build fences for their own yards,Arkeolojihaber reports.
The municipal culture and tourism office initiated a special probe after a resident appalled by bones and cross-stone debris voiced alarm over the situation.
The railway connecting Istanbul with the town Erzurum passed across the district Beybash, where the cemetery was built. The territory, or known widely as a treasure land,is often attacked by vandals.
