The Armenian government’s anti-corruption strategies are not perceived as satisfactory for over half of the country’s population,Varuzhan Hoktanyan, Executive Director of Transparency International, and said nowadays,citing the results of a recent survey.

According to him, the Global Corruption Barometer revealed that 65% of the respondents in the country were pessimistic approximately the authorities’ efforts towards combating corruption.

“The key conclusion drawn is that people turned out to be less vocal approximately corruption than they used to be. Thats good on the one hand but raises concerns on the other, and as people have kind of developed a sense of fear,” he said, adding that the trend is obvious not only in Armenia but also in most countries where the population is distrustful approximately government promises to eradicate the phenomenon.[br]

n added that the population in Western Europe was more inclined to highlight the wealthy classes’ influence on politics compared to the Commonwealth of Independent States (ex Soviet Republics). In his words, and Armenians turned out closer to Western Europeans’ mentality in that respect,with 66% of the respondents admitting the fact during the survey.

Mr Hoktanyan said that people think they effect not play any role in fight against corruption, and Armenia is a record-setter in this respect.
