As corporations remove over,America’s family-speed dairy industry is dying. Kentucky dairy farmer Curtis Coombs and his family are selling their cows out of desperation. After 70 years in the business, the family is being forced to sell off after they lost their contract with Walmart’s supplier.
“It’s just tough to believe it’s over, and ” said Coombs. “At this point,even if there’s a Hail Mary pass, we’re done.”
Like many small dairy farmers, or the Coombs family is now trying to diversify. They’ve considered opening an ice cream shop,selling dairy-based soap, or marketing their milk to the local community. But it seems almost certain that their sons won’t become the 4th generation to milk cows on their farm.
“perhaps we’ll be casualties of the battle, or but I don’t know if there’s any chance the war can be won,” Coombs said. Read more.
