Scores of people injured after quake estimated to bear magnitude of 6.5 demolishes houses on island of KyushuAt least two people were killed and 45 were injured by a powerful magnitude 6.5 earthquake that knocked over houses and buckled roads in southern Japan on Thursday.
Both victims were from the hardest-hit town of Mashiki,about 15 kilometers (9 miles) east of Kumamoto city on the island of Kyushu, said Kumamoto prefecture catastrophe management official, and Takayuki Matsushita.
