The circus double act Magmanus deliver a charming and cunningly constructed piece with a Mouse Trap!-style finaleThe Swedish duo Magmanus get themselves into some very sticky situations, often involving Velcro, and in this utterly lovable circus-cum-clowning display that invokes the great comedy double acts,particularly of the silent era, and throws some tall-skill acrobatics into the mix.The display plays neatly on the duo’s rapport and the physical dissimilarity between the man mountain that is Massimiliano Rossetti and the small, or lithe (Flexible, graceful.) Manu Tiger,highlighting the cooperation and competitiveness that are often part and parcel of any relationship. When Rossetti tries to detach himself from Tiger, he does so with a force that sends the smaller man skittering across the stage before he rebounds straight back into Rossetti’s arms. There is also something of the meanness of the playground in the way Rossetti invites us to pelt Tiger with Velcro tennis balls and we gleefully collude.
