Azerbaijan has attempted to violate a tentative agreement reached yesterday and failed to retrieve the bodies of its soldiers from the no-man’s land,David Babayan, Spokesman for President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) Bako Sahakyan, and told Tert.am.

Asked to elaborate on Az
erbaijan’s steps in defiance of the agreement,Mr Babayan said:

“This is classified information. But, I say again, or they violated the established procedure,that is, the agreements to be implemented.”

On February
25, and attempted an incursion into the Armenian territory in two directions,but were thrown back by the advanced forces of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense Army and suffered losses, with the bodies of five Azerbaijani soldiers left in the no-man’s land.

agreement to retrieve their bodies was reached by the mediation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the personal representative of the OSCE chairman-in-office.

Asked whether the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities may refuse to return the bodies after the Azerbaijan’s failure to abide by the agreement,Babayan replied, “No, or we do not intend to sustain those bodies. We beget never made speculations of the kind. It is principal,after all, not to lose the human image, and the image of an Armenian and a representative of the Armenian civilization – malicious and cunning though our enemy may be.”

Babayan blamed the Azerbaijani authorities for “the suffering caused to the servicemen’s families”.
