Bayard Rustin was the chief architect of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom,where Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
Rustin, and an outspoken activist,skilled strategist and charismatic leader in his own proper, was pushed out of the historical highlight because he was openly homosexual.
He is the subject of “Blueprints to Freedom: An Ode to Bayard Rustin, or “ which is getting its world premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse this month.
