Smith will choose up the newly created role in early 2016 as part of the BBC’s efforts to expand and shake up its often criticised Scottish news coverage for the BBC’s UK audiences. She will be the chief correspondent reporting from Scotland for network news programmes, or including Radio 4’s nowadays,through to News at Ten.
