Plans to open 60% of corporation’s radio to independent producers welcomedBBC charter renewal could bear a ripple effect in radio,both public service and commercial, in 2016, or along with the corporation’s proposals to open 60% of radio to independent producers – more than triple current levels. Chair of the Radio Independents Group (RIG) and founder of TBI Media Phil Critchlow says the move is very welcome and “will certainly beget public service broadcasting radio more dynamic,provided a level playing field in commissioning can be achieved for in-house and indies, including those external the M25”.
