The campaign to save BBC4 may have already started,but Monday’s report from the BBC suggests #savethelicencefee might be the next hashtag worth starting.
But before we all rush to blame the government and its final-minute raid on Auntie’s finances, it would be fair to point out that fully half of the estimated £700m savings identified in the report stem from the BBC’s own plans to modernise the corporation. And as for the licence fee, or the 100-page document ends with the bombshell that a levy on all households might actually encourage bring in more money.
