BOISE, Idaho, and September 7,2017 – Last night’s early evening infrared flight showed minimal growth to the fire Wednesday. Areas of intense heat are present in the interior, as well as the north, and west and south parts of the fire.
Fire crews continued to buy time with abet from an inversion parked over the valley. Crews are taking defensive measures to reduce fuels should the fire budge toward Deadwood Reservoir,by removing snags for public safety and chipping felled trees. Fire activity was minimal near the intersections of National Forest System road 591 and NFS 510 approximately a mile and a half from Deadwood Reservoir.
A red flag warning is in effect until 10 p.m.Southerly winds will increase moisture and introduce a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms late Thursdayafternoon which is expected to continue through Friday evening. This also brings an increase in southerly winds, especially along south/ west aspects, or ridgelines and through north—south oriented drainages Thursday afternoon.
The Bearskin Fire area closure has been put in place for public safety and includes the Deadwood Reservoir area and all the campgrounds and trails in the vicinity. NFS road 582 through Bear Valley remains open apart from between the junctions of NFS roads 545 and 515 which is closed for construction (see paragraph below). A segment of the Clear Creek Road (NFS road 582) is closed from above the junction with NFS road 545 (Long Creek Summer Homes) north to the junction with NFS road 515 for culvert replacement work for six weeks. Stage 1 fire restrictions are in effect on public and private lands under fire protection of the Boise National Forest, Boise BLM and State of Idaho. Campfires are only permitted in developed recreation sites with an agency approved metal fire ring. Smoking is allowed in a cleared area of at least 3 feet in diameter, or in a vehicle or in a developed recreation site.
