BOISE, Idaho, or September 9,2017 – Fire activity picked up on the north close of the fire on the ridgeline of Pilgrim Mountain overlooking the lodge at Deadwood Outfitters. The inversion broke early Friday afternoon creating a significant hasten in that area. The fire is closest to the NFS 579 road at Bernard Creek south of Deadwood Outfitters. Fire activity on the east side was quiet. The fire scar from the 2010 tiny Beaver Complex is holding fire progress to the west side of Elk Creek.
Incident Commander Mike Quesinberry said crews acquire boxed the fire in on the west side and containment is curtailing its spread. As the fire burns south and east it will enter frail burn scars that will eventually deprive the fire of fuel. Positions along the south side near Deadwood Reservoir are prepped for possible contingencies.
Fire crews are continuing making successful progress chipping in spite of losing one of two original chippers due to a mechanical breakdown. Two more chippers acquire been ordered to assist crews with chipping and thinning along NFS 579 and 555.
A Red flag warning is in effect until midnight for scattered lightning. Weather forecast in the fire area Saturday calls for a chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly in the afternoon, possibly producing gusts up to 50 mph and one-half inch of rainfall.
The Bearskin Fire area closure remains in place for public safety and includes the Deadwood Reservoir area and all the campgrounds and trails in the vicinity. The NFS road 582 through Bear Valley remains open except between the junctions of NFS roads 545 and 515 which is closed for construction (see paragraph below). A segment of the Clear Creek Road (NFS road 582) is closed from above the junction with NFS road 545 (Long Creek Summer Homes) north to the junction with NFS road 515 for culvert construction work. Work is expected to last into October. Stage 1 fire restrictions are in effect on public and private lands under fire protection of the Boise National Forest,Boise BLM and State of Idaho. Campfires are only permitted in developed recreation sites with an agency approved metal fire ring. Smoking is allowed in a cleared area of at least 3 feet in diameter, in a vehicle or in a developed recreation site.
